Eat, Read, Watch, Wear / Edition #26

Moodboard Created by Heather Mason / Images via Pinterest

Eat // The humble egg and bacon sandwich with bbq sauce. Because sometimes a girls gotta give in to the cravings...

Read // Annie Leibovitz At Work. A beautiful, linen bound book combining the photographer's portraits and the stories that accompany them.

Watch // True Detective, Season 2 starring Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn among others. Its set in California and follows the interwoven story of police officers from three police departments as they cooperate to find out what happened to the corrupt city manager Ben Caspere.

Wear // I've been drawn to slightly bohemian, floaty white tops. I love the contrast with black skinny jeans and heels.

Free Yourself

Working through my self-imposed limitations, beliefs and excuses - its going to be challenging but freeing.

Eat // Broccoli Tots - a healthier twist on the classic Tater Tot. So yummy dunked in chipotle sauce...

Read // I have just started 'A Mind of Your Own' by Kelly Brogan, M.D. and Kristin Loberg and its set to be fascinating.

Watch // Keith Richards: Under The Influence. A beautiful, inspiring documentary that is a peek into what drives the rock'n'roll legend.

Wear // So it seems that winter has arrived with a bang and I'm feeling unprepared for the definite chill in the air. Chunky knits are in order. As are classic leather pieces and boots. Now, if only the sun would come out...

Eat, Read, Watch, Wear / Edition #24

Eat // Gua Bao (simple, Taiwanese street food) from Chinoiserie in Auckland, NZ

Read // The Mountain Shadow by Gregory David Roberts. It picks up Australian fugitive Lin's life two years after Shantaram. Don't be put off by this tome, as I think its going to be a slow burner...

Watch // That Sugar Film. A little like Supersize Me, but for the hidden sugar in our 'healthy' food. This was quite an eye-opening documentary. As well as regarding food labels with suspicion and making me feel grateful that we already cook mostly from scratch at home, its taken the enjoyment out of sweet treats. For now at least.

Wear // Current mood: slip dresses, vintage denim and longer, wavy and dishevelled hair as per a young Kate Moss.

Eat // Indulge in home-made chocolate: cacao, coconut oil, maple syrup and a touch of sea salt.

Read // Renegade Collective. I know that I've featured it before, but I just love the stories, reading about the successes and how people overcome obstacles to achieve their dreams.

Watch // The True Cost. This is not for the faint hearted. Although I knew some of the story, it was a heart wrenching eye opener into the garment industry and 'fast' fashion. I defy anyone who watches it not to make more conscious decisions about what they wear, where its made and who by.

Wear // This spring weather is all over the place - one minute the sun is shining and its gorgeous and warm and the next the horizon is black with rain clouds. So, basically you need to be prepared and layering is key...

So, I know its been a little while. We've been away (travel post to follow soon), work has been kind of overwhelming and everything suddenly seems like its amped up. I'm really not complaining though but am enjoying the quieter moments, the little pockets of sunshine and warmth. Anyhow, here is my latest round-up:

Eat // I'm looking forward to the summertime and making my own ice cream, or this no-churn mascarpone soft serve with balsamic vinegar.

Read // I've just finished 'The Girls From Corona Del Mar' by Rufi Thorpe. A tale of friendship, distance and different paths. It also made me realise that you can never really know another person...

Watch // Prison Break, Season 2. Although its not as beautifully crafted as the first season, its still great tv.

Wear // Denim on denim with a soft white tee for freshness.

On Solitude

I love this quote. Although I wouldn't call myself an introvert, I do find that time alone to reflect, refocus and curate is essential from time to time.

Read // I really enjoyed reading this article for tips on daily habits for health and happiness.

Watch // Friends - it just never seems to get old.

Wear // Classic basics with a statement jacket. I love this look, it feels fresh but still has texture and depth.

Capable, Brave and Significant

We all have those days when we feel a little fragile. Although, hopefully they are few and far between like mine are becoming.

Eat // I love eggs for breakfast, and one of my favourite things to make/eat for brunch at the weekends is Shakshuka. You start by making a delicious, rich tomato sauce then you carefully break eggs onto it. Cover and cook further until the eggs are over easy and serve with crusty bread. Here is the super simple recipe.

Read // I've started reading 'How to talk about books you haven't read' by Pierre Bayard. So far so good.

Watch // True Detective, Season 2. This took me quite a few episodes to warm to, and now I can't wait to find out what happens next. The characters are totally different,  incredibly complex and its quite compelling to watch.

Wear // Longer length hair with soft, dishevelled waves.

Current Mood / Interiors

These spaces have something in common: perfect balance between classic and contemporary. A little modern and elegant and a little eclectic at the same time with plenty of warmth and character. I love the wooden floors, white walls and texture in the rugs and objets d'art.

Eat // Sometimes its the simple meals, like scrambled eggs, wilted kale and crumbled feta on toast (for dinner!) that are the most satisfying.

Read // For the first time in ages, I don't have a book on the go. What are you reading at the moment? I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Watch // Cult classic 'Wet Hot American Summer'. This was light and funny and I'm looking forward the series starting on Netflix...

Wear // The days have been crisp, and I'm still loving this look of long, monochromatic layers with black almond toed boots. Stylish yet simple and effortless feeling.

Eat // Dhal with brown rice. This simple, tasty and nutritious meal has become a weeknight staple.

Read // One of my favourite blogs is A House In The Hills. I really admire Sarah Yates' perspective and honesty in the way she shares her insecurities, health issues, amazing healthy recipes and her fresh personal style.

Watch // True Detective, Season 1. Totally enthralling and beautifully shot, it follows police homicide detectives (played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson) as they pursue a serial killer over 17 years.

Wear // I'm thinking about summer already and this is such a dreamy outfit - so effortless.
