Eat, Read, Watch, Wear / Edition #22

So, I know its been a little while. We've been away (travel post to follow soon), work has been kind of overwhelming and everything suddenly seems like its amped up. I'm really not complaining though but am enjoying the quieter moments, the little pockets of sunshine and warmth. Anyhow, here is my latest round-up:
Eat // I'm looking forward to the summertime and making my own ice cream, or this no-churn mascarpone soft serve with balsamic vinegar.
Read // I've just finished 'The Girls From Corona Del Mar' by Rufi Thorpe. A tale of friendship, distance and different paths. It also made me realise that you can never really know another person...
Watch // Prison Break, Season 2. Although its not as beautifully crafted as the first season, its still great tv.
Wear // Denim on denim with a soft white tee for freshness.

Eat // I love eggs for breakfast, and one of my favourite things to make/eat for brunch at the weekends is Shakshuka. You start by making a delicious, rich tomato sauce then you carefully break eggs onto it. Cover and cook further until the eggs are over easy and serve with crusty bread. Here is the super simple recipe.

Read // I've started reading 'How to talk about books you haven't read' by Pierre Bayard. So far so good.
Watch // True Detective, Season 2. This took me quite a few episodes to warm to, and now I can't wait to find out what happens next. The characters are totally different, incredibly complex and its quite compelling to watch.
Wear // Longer length hair with soft, dishevelled waves.

Current Mood / Interiors

These spaces have something in common: perfect balance between classic and contemporary. A little modern and elegant and a little eclectic at the same time with plenty of warmth and character. I love the wooden floors, white walls and texture in the rugs and objets d'art.

The white walls and floors give it an expansive feel, yet its the natural wood desks, large-scale moodboard and objets d'art give it intimacy.

Small Luxuries
Photography Heather Mason
Often its the little things that make a difference in our day to day lives, and I'm all about the small luxuries. A few of my luxuries are coffee from a favourite cafe, taking the time to read a the end of the day (whether a book or a magazine), buying fresh flowers or foliage and a scented candle. I'm currently burning 'Wildwood' by The Seeke, and am really enjoying its lightness and freshness.
What luxuries do you enjoy?

Union Green
All images via Union Green
Union Green is a new residential community and development to be located in Auckland's CBD that will redefine the way we live in an ever changing and evolving city scape.
The Rise is a north-facing apartment tower that boasts incredible views of the Waitemata and out over the city. Each apartment is generous in proportion with a light and airy feel. They have sheltered outdoor spaces featuring glass sliders that can be enjoyed all year round.
The Terraces look out over the Green, Union Green's central parkland, giving that feeling of 'leafy suburbs', and with glass at both ends, you get a genuine feeling of loftiness.

Eat // There's something about winter that has me craving soup. Thumbing through Bite magazine I spotted a recipe for Kumara, Lentil and Coconut Soup. It looked simple, so I thought I'd whip it up for a mid-week dinner. Easy to make and delicious, we ate it with bread and butter. You can find the recipe over on Bite.
Read // 'Dr Libby's Beauty From The Inside Out' by Dr Libby Weaver. I feel like I'm a bit late to the game with this one, having just started it. Using nutrition as a starting point, Dr Libby deciphers beauty by bringing emotional and physical mechanisms to the fore in achieving radiance from the inside out.
Watch // What Maisy Knew (starring Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgard and Steve Coogan), the story of a little girl living in New York who becomes the centre of her parents bitter custody battle.
Wear // Cooler weather with scattered and often heavy showers has me reaching for boots and cosy knits.

Indoor Plants
Breathe life into your interior with the addition of potted plants and fresh foliage. As well as being beautiful and bringing a touch of nature inside, having plants indoors can help to purify the air by filtering out harmful volatile organic compounds like formaldehyde or xylene.
Some of my favourite options include palms, phaeleonopsis orchids, Jade tree (also known as 'money tree'), succulents, monsteria leaves and fiddle leaf figs and not just for their beauty but ease of care...

Eat // Crispy grilled polenta squares with tomato sauce and topped with grated cheddar.
Read // Grace - A Memoir, Grace Coddington. Honest and insightful, this memoir follows Grace's journey from her childhood in windswept Anglesey to London where she became a face of the Sixties, to Fashion Editor at British Vogue and beyond. It has lovely illustrations and photographs.
Watch // Anyone who is interested in relationships should watch the documentary film 'Buck'. This moving documentary examines the life of Buck Brannaman, acclaimed 'horse whisperer' from his start in rodeos and overcoming child abuse to becoming a well-known expert and authority on the interactions between horses and people.
Wear // Stripes.

My Month On Instagram / April
Photography: Heather Mason
Another month has been and gone. Does anyone else feel that this year is flying by?! April was a great month marked by reflection, creativity, late birthday treats and quality family time. I'm really trying to live in the moment - just being and enjoying the simple pleasures without constantly hurrying and thinking of the next thing.

Eat // Pasta smothered in home-made kale pesto. I used this recipe from the BBC Good Food site. It makes a generous amount, so any leftovers can be saved for up to a week in the fridge or frozen for a later date...
Read // Undone Journal, a thoughtful take on fashion, beauty, creativity and the good life.
Watch // The Honourable Woman - An Anglo-Israeli baroness (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) works tirelessly to reconcile the Israelis and Palestinians and creates an international maelstrom in the process.
Wear // Make like the beautiful Sara Donaldson, author of Harper & Harley, and wear your hair in soft, undone waves.
